Al Ahly chairman Hassan Hamdi announces his retirement

Al Ahly chairman Hassan Hamdi is to resign from his upcoming role of a new bill that limits the term of office of members of the Club des sports.

New regulations to be established by the Department of Sports will stop members serve more than two consecutive terms (eight years) at a time.

Hamdi has already served two terms so he decided to retire before the election of the club on March 28 .

A new board will also be introduced to the Egyptian club.

The new regulations have been the subject of lengthy public debate and media disputes and it was proposed that the elections be postponed club while the dispute continues.

But the minister Tuesday Egypt Youth and Sports has announced that the elections in all the clubs would go ahead as planned.

This decision was taken after the International Olympic Committee gave the Egyptian National Olympic Committee for approval to continue with the elections until the Egyptian government approves new law on sport .

Hamdi said: " The elections were postponed and we started working on a new regulation for the club Suddenly, the ministry announced two days ago that the elections should be held as planned. .

"I 'm sure the club members will select the best candidates to run the club in the next period. As for me, I decided to retire. "

During the reign of Hamdi as president Ahly won the African Champions League four times and were crowned champions of the Egyptian league five times.

"I am pleased and proud to have served the club for over 40 years as a player, administrator , board member , and finally as president ," said Hamdi , who was dubbed by the media as " Minister of Defense " during his playing days in the 1960s .

"I am also proud of all the achievements of the club has done over the past eight years at all levels , sports , culture and social .

"We , as a council , are proud that during our term , the club was named club of the century, and the club has won the most international and regional championships. "
